On March 6, 2024, Zhejiang Province Vice Governor Lu Shan and his delegation paid an official visit to the Confucius Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). The purpose of this visit was to further deepen cooperation and exchange between Zhejiang Province and South Africa in the fields of education, culture, and medicine.

Under the leadership of Governor Lu, the delegation toured the teaching facilities of the Confucius Institute and engaged in in-depth discussions with faculty and students. Governor Lu highly praised the efforts of the Confucius Institute in promoting Chinese culture, especially in the dissemination of knowledge and practice of traditional Chinese medicine.

During the meeting with UWC officials, both sides held in-depth discussions on further cooperation. Governor Lu proposed that both sides should explore more forms of cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine education, academic research, and cultural exchange, leveraging their respective strengths to promote the development of cultural and educational exchanges between China and South Africa. Additionally, Governor Lu suggested establishing a long-term cooperation mechanism to support exchange programs for young scholars and students from both countries, thereby enhancing talent cultivation and academic exchanges.

The Vice Chancellor of UWC expressed high regard for the cooperation with China and extended a warm welcome to the Zhejiang delegation led by Governor Lu. He pointed out that the Confucius Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine not only provides valuable opportunities for South African students to learn about Chinese culture and medicine but also serves as an important platform for promoting cultural exchanges between China and South Africa.
