University of the Western Cape Joins Chinese Anniversary Reception

The University of the Western Cape was among other local Chinese attendees at a reception hosted by the Chinese Consulate-General in Cape Town, South Africa's legislative capital, on Friday evening. This reception was organized to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the People's Republic of China's (PRC) founding, commemorated on Oct. 1.

The Table Bay Hotel was bustling with nearly 400 guests for this special occasion, including Lechesa Tsenoli, deputy speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa, who was the guest of honour. The list of attendees further encompassed parliament members, government officials, foreign diplomats, and representatives from various organizations and Chinese enterprises based in Cape Town.

The event's highlight was the presence of Mr. You Wenze, the Chinese consul-general in Cape Town, who delivered a stirring welcome address. He recounted China's significant strides over the past 74 years, led by the Communist Party of China (CPC).

During the event, the University of the Western Cape had the honour of taking a photograph with Mr. You Wenze, the Consulate General of China in South Africa.
