Reading of Dreams on Scooters-Chinese Literature Readers’ Club South Africa at UWC

On September 16, 2025, Chinese Literature Readers’ Club South Africa held a reading session on the book of Dreams on Scooters. The event  attracted enthusiastic participation from students.

Through guided reading, students gained insights into the lives of Chinese delivery riders. They discussed similarities and differences between the delivery industries in China and South Africa, including delivery speed, service coverage, payment methods, and the working conditions of couriers.

As part of the program, students gave a bilingual (Chinese–English)  reading of the poem One Who Chases Time, sparking reflections on the resilience and dedication of delivery workers. In the open discussion, participants shared personal delivery experiences and expressed empathy with the struggles described in the book.

The event also featured cultural elements: students received handmade accessories inspired by traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese picture books, and sampled traditional Chinese desserts.

The reading session not only enhanced students’ understanding of contemporary Chinese society but also promoted cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and South Africa.
