Promoting Wellness, Celebrating Women’s Day Together

On August 9, 2025, to celebrate South Africa’s Women’s Day and promote the concept of a healthy lifestyle, the Confucius Institute of Chinese Medicine at the University of the Western Cape actively participated in the “Exercise and Health” themed event held at Ratanga Park in Cape Town. Initiated by the South African Women’s Federation, the event brought together teacher representatives from multiple Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms across South Africa, as well as women representatives from various industries, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere.

During the event, participants took part in fitness dance training led by professional instructors, enjoying the festive spirit. Dr. Yang Hang from the UWC Confucius Institute of Chinese Medicine then led the crowd in practicing Baduanjin, a traditional Chinese health-preserving exercise. The gentle yet powerful movements not only helped participants relax both body and mind but also deepened their appreciation for the charm of traditional Chinese fitness culture.

South Africa’s Women’s Day is not only a day to commemorate the struggle of women for equality and freedom but also an important occasion to advocate for women’s health and strengthen social cohesion. Through this event, the Confucius Institute of Chinese Medicine at the University of the Western Cape not only enhanced exchanges and cooperation with the local community but also shared health concepts and the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine, receiving enthusiastic responses and high praise from participants.

It was heartening to see Dr. Yang Hang lead the Baduanjin practice at the Women’s Day event, blending traditional Chinese health culture with a celebration of wellness. If you ever need to preserve those precious memories from such gatherings, old photo restoration can help bring faded images back to life.
