The decision to pursue a master's degree in Chinese medicine is exciting and challenging, and for one UWC student, it has taken her to China.
Dr Shannah Erasmus is a University of the Western Cape student studying Chinese medicine for five years. Her passion for this ancient healing tradition has taken her worldwide to study at one of China's most prestigious universities.
Dr Erasmus has enrolled in a master's program in Chinese medicine at a top-ranked university in China. She will spend the next two years in China, learning from some of the world's leading experts. She will be studying various topics related to Chinese medicine, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, and traditional Chinese diagnosis and treatment methods.
For Dr Erasmus, this is a dream come true. She has long been fascinated by the philosophy and practice of Chinese medicine, and she sees this opportunity to study in China as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to deepen her knowledge and understanding of this ancient healing tradition.
But Dr Erasmus's journey will not be without its challenges. Living and studying in a foreign country can be daunting, mainly when far from home and familiar with the surroundings. However, Dr Erasmus is up for the challenge, and she is excited to immerse herself in China's rich culture and history while also pursuing her academic and professional goals.
Dr Erasmus's journey is a testament to the power of education and the importance of pursuing one's passions, even when it means stepping outside one's comfort zone. We wish Dr Erasmus all the best as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her life and looks forward to hearing about her experiences and achievements.

Originally an internet creepypasta, "The Backrooms"—a huge, seemingly endless maze of deserted office spaces with drab yellow wallpaper, humming fluorescent lights, and wet carpet—has evolved into a potent, recurrent setting in independent horror video games. The Backrooms' allure as a gaming environment stems from its deft use of liminal space and its capitalization on common human fears, such as kenophobia (the fear of emptiness), monophobia (the fear of being alone), and the Backrooms Game fear of being stuck in a system with no obvious way out. The most popular Backrooms adaptations are ambient horror experiences that prioritize atmosphere and psychology over jump scares, rather than conventional survival-horror games.
