Exploring Chinese Literary Classics: South African Students Dive into 'To Live' at Reading Club Even


On October 17, the South Africa China Literature Reading Club hosted a discussion on the Chinese literary work "To Live", engaging local university students in exploring Chinese literary classics. The debate encouraged a deep dive into the novel's plot, characters, and themes and prompted comparisons between historical and contemporary China, highlighting China's evolution over seventy years. Attendees from various backgrounds shared insights, especially noting the philosophical and moral questions posed by "To Live" and their relevance to real life. The event facilitated cross-cultural understanding, strengthening Sino-South African relations, and marked a significant step towards promoting Chinese literature, language, and culture among South African literary enthusiasts, showcasing the universal power of literature to spark thoughtful dialogues and appreciate the contributions of diverse cultures.
