On 4 March, the Chinese Consulate-General in Cape Town hosted a grand reception to celebrate the 2026 Spring Festival and Lantern Festival. Consul General Mr Ren Faqiang and Western Cape Minister of Social Development Mr Jaco Londt attended and delivered remarks. Nearly 400 guests, including members of the consular corps and representatives from various sectors in the consular district, gathered to mark the occasion. A delegation of teachers and students from the Confucius Institute for Chinese Medicine at the University of the Western Cape was invited to attend.
At the event, the Confucius Institute team organized a series of engaging cultural activities, including lantern riddle solving, writing the Chinese character “Fu”, and tea appreciation, offering guests an immersive cultural experience. More than 20 students of the Confucius Institute actively participated and interacted warmly with attendees. They noted that the event provided a vivid introduction to the richness of traditional Chinese culture and strengthened their motivation to continue learning Chinese.
The reception not only served as a platform for cultural exchange, but also further enhanced mutual understanding and communication. The Confucius Institute for Chinese Medicine at the University of the Western Cape will continue to act as a bridge, advancing educational and cultural exchanges, fostering closer people-to-people ties, and contributing to China–Africa cultural cooperation.
