From 3 to 5 February 2026, the University of the Western Cape held a three-day staff orientation programme. Several teachers newly appointed to the Confucius Institute in 2025 participated in the programme.

During the orientation, Professor Robert Balfour, Rector and Vice-Chancellor of UWC, and Professor Monwabisi Ralarala, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, delivered keynote presentations on the University’s educational philosophy and governance structure. Heads of relevant departments, including Student Development and Support, Library Services, and International Relations, also provided systematic briefings on their respective areas of responsibility.
Through this programme, newly appointed teachers gained a deeper understanding of the University’s development strategy and operational mechanisms, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration in teaching, administration, and international cooperation. Looking ahead, the Confucius Institute will continue to strengthen communication and cooperation with relevant university departments, and steadily advance Chinese language teaching and cultural exchange initiatives.
