In June 2025, the Confucius Institute of Chinese Medicine at the University of the Western Cape successfully hosted the 5th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Show for Primary School Students . Student contestants and teacher representatives from Confucius Institutes and classrooms across South Africa gathered to celebrate this joyful and meaningful Chinese language event.

Mr. Clarence Colin Blignaut, Chief Education Specialist (Grades 4–9 Languages): Curriculum Implementation & Quality Improvement (GET) from the Department of Basic Education, attended the event and delivered a speech. He highly praised the students’ language abilities and cross-cultural expression, noting that the “Chinese Bridge” serves as a valuable platform for youth and enhances educational and cultural exchange between South Africa and China.

The competition featured two main segments: Chinese speech and talent performance. Contestants delivered impressive speeches in fluent Chinese, sharing their learning journeys and expressing their love for the Chinese language and culture. They also showcased a variety of traditional Chinese talents such as singing, dancing, martial arts, calligraphy, and more, winning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Directors of various Confucius Institutes and classrooms also attended the event, joining efforts to further promote Chinese language education across the country.
