On 22 January, the Directors of the Confucius Institute of Chinese Medicine at the University of the Western Cape (CI at UWC) were invited to attend the Spring Festival reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in South Africa. The event brought together distinguished guests from various fields to celebrate the most important traditional festival of the Chinese people—Spring Festival.

During the reception, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa,

Wu Peng, delivered a speech, reflecting on the fruitful cooperation between China and South Africa and looking forward to new opportunities in the coming year. As a key platform for China-South Africa cultural exchange, CI at UWC has been dedicated to promoting traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese language education, contributing to mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations.

During the event, the two deans engaged in in-depth discussions with guests from various sectors, sharing the achievements of the Confucius Institute over the past year and expressing their confidence in further promoting outstanding Chinese traditional culture in South Africa in the coming year.

The invitation to participate in this event reflects the recognition by the Chinese Embassy in South Africa of the achievements of CI at UWC in 2024. It will also help further strengthen the Institute’s connections with various sectors of South African society.
