A Cultural Journey Across Mountains and Seas——2025 UWC Confucius Institute Summer Camp

On September 5, 2025, the “Chinese Bridge” Summer Camp of the Confucius Institute for Chinese Medicine at the University of the Western Cape concluded, with 15 students returning safely to Cape Town.

Over 10 days, the campers visited Beijing, Hangzhou, Jinhua, Shanghai. They climbed the Great Wall, rode high-speed trains, explored traditional Chinese medicine and crafts, admired scenic spots, and experienced the vibrancy of modern cities and Yiwu International Trade City. These diverse activities enriched their cultural knowledge, broadened their horizons, and deepened their appreciation of Chinese language and culture.

The camp was hosted by China’s Center for Language Education and Cooperation, organized by the UWC Confucius Institute, and undertaken by Zhejiang Normal University. It strengthened cultural exchanges between China and South Africa and broadened students’ global perspectives.
