Six students from the University of the Western Cape in South Africa won Outstanding Work Awards at the 2025 competition themed “Sing & Learn Chinese — In Tune with Nature” .
Matshediso Lesia, Amahle Zulu, and Den Mari Jacobs formed the Protea group and performed The Shy Rose Blossoms Silently, while Sinethemba Sphiwe Mnisi, Ria Ronewa Ndou, and Alexandria Ruth Gwaidza formed Rainbow Voices and performed Rainbow. Both groups impressed the judges with their Chinese-language singing and creative presentations.
The singing competition, organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, featured two main components. One was a music video competition, in which students selected songs from the official playlist and produced creative videos that were shortlisted for global screening. The other was the Chinese Showcase, where teams introduced themselves, shared their Chinese learning experiences, reflected on nature, and expressed their commitment to environmental protection.
During the preparation, teachers from the Confucius Institute (CI) provided continuous guidance, supporting students in practicing Chinese pronunciation and vocal performance with professionalism and care. Looking ahead, CI will continue to encourage students to showcase their Chinese language proficiency and cultural understanding through competitions.
